Why Art?
How drawing improves learning and creativity
Art students are reminded to maintain a sketchbook in some form, and, while my personal feeling is that sketchbooks used in and out of class are a valuable tool for self-expression and need not be privy to teacher grading and inspection, many colleges now recommend that students bring their sketchbook for review when assessing work for portfolios. Sketches that are assigned for class may be done in a separate for-class sketchbook, on loose paper that is stapled or clipped into a sketchbook, or done in a marked section of a student sketchbook with the student’s knowledge that they will be shared. The important requirement to remember is that as an art student, you are expected to maintain a sketchbook with sections that are periodically reveiwed for assessment.
